Had my pint 10 Oct 2007 on the day I met the Sunday Sun to take piccies and do interview about this website. Pete Zulu Robson, the former punk rock singer owner ( & keen & talented photographer) was there. Not my first visit by any means. Had a few beers & much wine there several times before. Here's the tale.
One lunch time I popped into this, for all the world, ordinary pub  (but as you know I'm a Black Horse groupie) for a bit of lunch..had a steak, medium rare, chips, mushrooms. I don't even like mushrooms but these mushrooms  were spookily good and with the fattest, nicest chips and peppered steak it stopped me in my tracks. I've never recommended a restaurant in my life but this food made me downright evangelical. A bunch of us went for dinner a couple of weeks later and all agreed it was excellent. The stars below, used as a divider between all items on this website, could be my star rating for this eaterie. The funky decor also is worth a look

If you are following the Arthurian thing, this pub is in an area of a classic rolling hill..just like I've found as common topography near BH's.. and has, according to the sous chef, and, it turns out, Wikipedia, at least one recorded famous battle ...tho sometime later than the Saxon times..actually about the time this pub was established...this may be one of the oldest pubs in the North East. Go there...you may borrow my car to do so

BLACK HORSE, CORNSAY

There'll be few pubs in a more isolated spot than this one Old Cornsay dates from Anglo-Saxon times.  Cornsay is seven miles west of Durham City and one of the most westerly villages of the area. A crow or perhaps even a crane, from which it gets it name, flying directly west from Durham after passing Cornsay would only encounter the little village of Satley, a mile and a half to the west.
The empty Pennine hills lie beyond. BH classic
The Black Horse, a 200 year old coaching inn, is a major feature of the village. Built on a road that brought goods and mail from Weardale, it is claimed that a ghost called Mavis haunts the pub cellar and toilets.

The BLACK HORSE, TOW LAW

The county of Durham covers about 950 square miles and lies between two great rivers, the Tyne and the Tees, in the North of England to the east of the Pennines, with Yorkshire to the south and Tyne and Wear to the north. The land slopes down from the rugged hill farming country in the west to the North Sea Coast. County Durham's administrative centre is the city of Durham which gets its name from the Saxon word Dunholme - from the Anglo Saxon 'dun' meaning hill and 'holme', an island in the river, which exactly describes the location of Durham Cathedral stands - on an sandstone bluff in middle of the river Wear.

The BLACK HORSE TUDHOE DURHAM
At about 5pm on 21st March 2006 I called in for a pint. I was the only patron. Before I left, a couple and their dog came in. It would appear from notices that it has become a live band venue.
Tudhoe as you pass through appears a very uninteresting village but go round the back of the pub and you'll find the village green and picturesque houses

Directions: The Black Horse can be found close to the centre of Canterbury, just outside the former city walls and historic Westgate.
It is a welcoming, friendly pub beautifully presented, converted into a hostelry in1909. Inside it is neat, compact and spotless with the main feature being the circular, oak bar with traditional, overhanging glass rack.

Built in the 14th Century and formerly home to the village lock up, with the bars still on the windows to prove it, it is a picturesque, whitewashed country inn, strewn with multi coloured hanging baskets in the summer months.
